Self-Regulation & Confirmed Intellect Programme for Adults

An experiential online programme for adults: observe how you think and react, examine assumptions, regulate responses, and choose with greater awareness (18+).

Observe. Question. Regulate. Choose.

The Self-Regulation & Confirmed Intellect Programme for Adults is an experiential online programme developed by the International School of Humanitarian Thoughts and Practices (ISHTP) to help individuals understand how they think, how they react, what influences their choices, and how they can respond to life with greater awareness and clarity.

Much of our everyday behaviour is influenced by habits, emotions, assumptions, past experiences, social conditioning and automatic patterns of thought. We may know what we should do, yet find ourselves repeatedly reacting in ways that do not reflect our deeper understanding or values.

This programme explores the space between what happens to us and how we choose to respond.

What is Self-Regulation?

Self-regulation is the ability to observe and manage one’s thoughts, emotions, impulses and behaviour while responding appropriately to different situations.

It does not mean suppressing emotions or controlling oneself rigidly. Rather, it involves developing the capacity to pause, observe, understand and consciously choose a response instead of being governed entirely by an immediate emotional or habitual reaction.

Through reflective and experiential practices, participants learn to recognise their triggers, emotional patterns, internal conflicts and habitual responses while developing greater capacity for conscious choice.

What is Confirmed Intellect?

Confirmed Intellect is an ISHTP concept that emphasises the ability to examine our thoughts, beliefs, assumptions and interpretations before accepting them as truth.

We often respond not only to what actually happened, but to what we believe happened, what we assume another person intended, or what our previous experiences lead us to expect.

Confirmed Intellect encourages us to ask:

  • What do I actually know?
  • What am I assuming?
  • Is this a fact, an interpretation, a fear or a belief?
  • What evidence supports my conclusion?
  • Could there be another perspective?

The purpose is not to doubt everything, but to develop a more reflective, discerning and responsible way of thinking.

What Will the Programme Explore?

Participants will engage with interconnected areas of personal development, including self-awareness, emotional regulation, thought observation, assumptions and beliefs, reasoning and inquiry, impulse regulation, perspective-taking, intuition, imagination, communication, empathy, humanitarian values and conscious decision-making.

Activities may include guided self-reflection, real-life situations, experiential exercises, perspective-taking activities, expressive practices, group discussions and practical applications for everyday life.

Who Can Join?

The programme is designed for adults interested in self-development, emotional awareness, reflective thinking and more conscious living (aged 18 and over for online registration).

It may be particularly meaningful for people who want to better understand their recurring emotional or behavioural patterns, improve their responses during challenging situations, strengthen interpersonal relationships, make more considered decisions, or explore the relationship between self-awareness, intellect and humanitarian living.

No previous background in psychology or philosophy is required.

Programme Approach

This is not simply a lecture-based course.

The programme follows an experiential approach in which participants are encouraged to observe themselves, question their automatic interpretations, reflect on their experiences and apply their learning to everyday situations.

The emphasis gradually moves from:

Reaction → Pause → Observation → Inquiry → Understanding → Conscious Choice

The aim is not to tell participants what to think, but to strengthen their capacity to examine how they think and how consciously they choose.

Expected Learning

By the end of the programme, participants may develop greater awareness of their thoughts, emotions and behavioural patterns; improved ability to pause before reacting; stronger differentiation between facts and interpretations; greater awareness of assumptions and biases; improved perspective-taking and communication; and a deeper understanding of the relationship between personal responsibility and humanitarian values.

From Inner Awareness to Humanitarian Living

At ISHTP, self-development is not viewed as an isolated personal pursuit. How we understand ourselves influences how we communicate, manage conflict, relate to others and participate in society.

The Self-Regulation & Confirmed Intellect Programme therefore connects inner development with a larger humanitarian purpose:

Know Yourself. Examine Your Thinking. Regulate Your Response. Understand Others. Choose Consciously.

Because a more humane society begins with more aware human beings.
